Book Summary:

Allie Navarro can’t wait to show her best friends the app she built at CodeGirls summer camp. CLICK’D pairs users based on common interests and sends them on a fun (and occasionally rule-breaking) scavenger hunt to find each other. And it’s a hit. By the second day of school, everyone is talking about CLICK’D.

Watching her app go viral is amazing. Leaderboards are filling up! Everyone’s making new friends. And with all the data Allie is collecting, she has an even better shot at beating her archenemy, Nathan, at the upcoming youth coding competition. But when Allie discovers a glitch that threatens to expose everyone’s secrets, she has to figure out how to make things right, even if that means sharing the computer lab with Nathan. Can Allie fix her app, stop it from doing any more damage, and win back the friends it hurt-all before she steps on stage to present CLICK’D to the judges?

New York Times best-selling author Tamara Ireland Stone combines friendship, coding, and lots of popcorn in her fun and empowering middle-grade debut.

I’m super excited to host a giveaway of a copy Click’d by Tamara Ireland Stone, thanks to the wonderful folks over at Disney Hyperion. I read Tamara’s book Every Last Word a few years ago and fell in love with her writing style. I can’t wait to pick up her newest book, which is all about girls in tech and seems like a really empowering read. Make sure to enter the giveaway below!

Since Click’d is about a group of friends building an app at CodeGirls summer camp, I thought I would share with you three of my favorite apps that are not the usual Instagram/Snap/Twitter etc.:

1. Focus Keeper (aka Tomato)

I blame my phone but sometimes I find it hard to concentrate on just one task for a length of time. I absolutely love the focus keeper app because it allows me to set a timer for 20 minutes and then rewards bursts of productivity with five minute breaks. Somehow, I’m actually way more focused when I use this app and it came in super in handy during grad school.

2. Duolingo

I’ve studied French since high school but I’m not that great at making sure that I constantly review vocabulary/grammar. Duolingo turns learning a language into a fun game and I’ve found that using it only 10 minutes a day really helps me keep up my French.

3. Couple

Couple is such a useful app — it’s a way for me and my husband to share photos, calendars, a shopping lists all in one place. It makes it sooo much easier to for us to stay organized.

  1. Thanks for the great chance! I use the Goodreads and Instagram apps a lot. I also have Duolingo, but haven’t used it very much. I also have a couple of weather and emergency apps. And a whole bunch of apps I never use!

  2. I think the app that i use more than anything else is Twitter. Also, I’m obsessed with Jigsaw Bug – I can spend hours sitting there doing jigsaw puzzles, haha.
